A Message from our Fleet Captain
(Use scroll bar on the side of this frame if high-lighted)
Judging by feedback from participants, SOAR 2011 was an overwhelming success.
To quote one skipper: “Squamish and Bellingham are the not to be missed regattas in the Pacific Northwest”
We had no protests and I can assure Trevor that there were no S.O.A.R. losers!
It certainly doesn’t hurt that the weather was spectacular with clear skies and excellent sailing conditions.
The addition of the Squamish Windsports Society and Canadian Kite Board Championships added a new dimension and demographic to the event.
There were lots of spectators drawn by the kite event adding to the festive atmosphere.
While there was less equipment damage in 2011, we still managed a man overboard and were treated to the graceful sight of the Melges 32 on plane at 18 knots through Squamish Harbour.
My warmest thanks go out to the volunteers from our club who worked so hard to be welcoming to our visitors and allowing them to share the fabulous natural environment in which we live.
